Wanda Metropolitano Stadium
CAIRO – 18September 2017: Antoine Griezmann gave Atletico Madrid supporters a moment of magic as they celebrate the first goal in the new stadium, Wanda Metropolitano.
He led his team to secure the three points by winning the game over Malaga with his single goal.
He was very happy to be the man who brought the joy to the fans; he expressed this by his words to the press.
"We really wanted to win, we trained here on Thursday but something was missing, the No. 12 (the fans) was missing," he explained to the assembled press.
"The truth is, it is the best stadium I've played in, and not just because it's our home." "I really wanted to get back to running and working hard for the team, I am very happy to be able to do this again," he added.
Diego Simeone praised his French player after the victory.
"Griezmann is returning to being the club's most decisive player, it was a wonderful goal," he explained to reporters.
"I am left with the sensation created by this goal," he admitted. "I will always remember celebrating it with (assistant coach) German Burgos."
Atletico Madrid used their old stadium, Vicente Calderon to play home games from 1966 until 2016.
